FREE February at AIC

The Art Institute Chicago is FREE for the month of February!

Children under 14 are always free, but now you can take your parents to the new modern wing and explore all the cool artwork together!  Check out the Art Institute website for all the details and other free programs they're offering in the month of February.

Remember - I went to the new modern wing on the weekend it opened and it was awesome!  Highly recommended!

Oh! Joyous Return!

I am excited to announce that my "You Can Draw Marvel Characters" book has been returned to the art room!  Yayy!
Check your lockers, classrooms, and under the bed - you might not even realize that you borrowed a book!

where did my art books go?

Despite the fact that I have stopped lending out books from the art room, they have continued to disappear.  That's just sad! :(

I have started an Amazon "Wish List" of books for the art room that has books we could use for the art room and some books that have previously disappeared from the art room.  Feeling generous?  Buy Sandburg Art a book or two! Here's our list:

The two latest books to disappear from the art room are:

7th Grade Extra Credit Art Contest

The Guidance department hosts a Career Day/Career Fair for 7th grade students each year.  This year, there is a contest to design the cover for the Career Day program.  Current 7th grade art students can earn extra credit by entering the contest and submitting designs to Mrs. Leban (who will then submit them to Mrs. Lambert-Haak).

District Faculty Art Show

...With photos courtesy of Mr. Leban.  (Thanks!)

Photos of my drawings from the show.

Artwork by York High School Teachers.

A cool shot from the ground up (you can see my pieces on the left).

That's me, blurry, talking to Mary Lou Stewart - she's the head of the art department at Elmhurst College.

Hey, someone's looking at my artwork!

This is the Accelerator machine, what the building and gallery are named after.  It's really cool "Flash Gordon" space age design.

Me talking to Ms. Pancratz, Mrs. Nall, and Ms. Cruger at the show.

Mmmm... food!

My work was hanging next to the work of Mr. Rich Edgley, a York High School art teacher.

The show was really fun to do, because many of us spend so much time with our "art teacher" hat on, it's nice to get to be just "artist" sometimes.  Thanks to everyone who stopped by the opening last night!  It's great to see support from the community and our colleagues!
