Because we love art.

Thank you to everyone who came and participated in Evening with the Arts 2010!!!  I hope to collect many many more photos/videos of the evening from everyone, but I thought I'd start with this one.  Yes, I got up and sang karaoke with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Gail Friday night.  If you weren't there to see it, it was pretty fun!  Mr. Anderson chose "Born to be Wild" and I sang it like I was playing RockBand in my own living room - hey, it's fun - I know I'm not the next American Idol, but I sure had a good time!  Hopefully more to come soon!

Evening with the Arts 2010 is coming!

Evening with the Arts is Sandburg's end-of-year art show and celebration.  All students, parents, and families are invited to attend and join in the fun!  There will be art on display, performances and demonstrations by students (in both vocal music and visual arts), make-and-take art stations, an open-mic karaoke stage, refreshments, and more!!!  This is an event NOT to be missed!

Today I received supplies for the make-and-take art stations.  I made a mini-portrait as an example of what YOU could do while at Evening with the Arts!

Save the Arts!

As "Evening with the Arts" grows closer (Friday May 21st! - Mark your calendars!), I think it is appropriate to share the following video I found on YouTube about the importance of arts education:

I found a fun new website...

I found this really fun new website the other evening while window-shopping on the web.  It's called Polyvore, and you can browse different fashion, jewelry, celebrity style, housewares, design... just about anything - to create these really neat little digital collages of inspiration.

Here's one that I made:

Items in this set:
Betsey Johnson Calandra, $150
Betsey Johnson Athena - Pink Leopard, $150
Hello Kitty Die Cut Face Tote Bag, $60
eternal sunshine handbag, $52
AURELIE BIDERMANN - SILVER STAR BRACELET, 175 EUR

Pretty neat, huh?  If you decide to check out the site, make a collage, print it out, and bring it in.  I'll give you extra credit!

News items, plus a cool video.

So, I have good news, bad news, and a cool video to share today:

1. Bad news first - today I found out that student artwork (part of a display hanging in the school) was VANDALIZED by students!  That makes me so sad and angry all at the same time.  How could someone do that to another's work?  Students put a lot of time and hard work into their art, and I want to share it with everyone in the building... but I can't if this continues... :(

2. Then the good news - I won a Thiems Grant for POTTERY WHEELS for next school year!  I wrote a grant for all three middle schools, and we won!  Each school is getting some wheels to use as part of the 8th grade sculpture classes.  We're also getting a visit from the company who's selling us the wheels.  She's a ceramic artist, too, so she's going to show us all about our new table-top wheels.  Get ready to get MESSY!!! :)

3. And a cool video.  This was made by a college art student as part of a class.  I thought it was neat and wanted to share it with you:
